A decorative fastener utilized on French
cuffs,
cuff links are used on both
guys and women garments. They usually contain two sides fastened with each other
by use of a chain or a single bar. One side is smaller sized and goes to the
inside of the cuff whilst the other bigger side, often decorated, remains on the
outer.
In the seventeenth century pieces of cloth had been used to tie up
the sleeves of shirts in what maybe the earliest version of cufflinks. But, in
the eighteenth century, they became more ornate and became a status symbol for
the rich. By then they had been decorated with gold and valuable
stones.
